“Digitalization will bring disruptive changes to our industry,” said Klaus Frohlich, BMW’s Head of Research and Development.
Examples of those changes include:
-Greater convenience and safety, initially through driver assistance systems, then in the more distant future, through fully autonomous cars
-Seamless vehicle integration into every day life – for example, smartphone or connected home
-New possibilities to use and experience the interior and the user interfaces of vehicles
-Open automotive industry to new competition
Frohlich then introduced the “BMW iVision Future Interaction.”
Instead of the usual reported statistics, the presentation ironically took a turn toward the human aspect. Designers considered challenges that regular people face in day-to-day driving. They asked themselves, “What will the future of ‘sheer driving pleasure’ look like?
Because the answer to that question is multi-faceted and requires a combination of different concepts and offerings, BMW developed a personalized digital companion for their customers called “BMW Connected.”
BMW Connected is based on an Open Mobility Cloud and creates personalized digital services for its customers. When a driver gets behind the wheel, navigation has already been programed, temperature has been set and parking options can be displayed. The BMW will even be able to alert the driver when near a favorite shop or restaurant.
One of the ultimate goals for BMW is to utilize cutting-edge technologies to reinforce the concept of “sheer driving pleasure” by creating the option to use time spent in the car for oneself or spending time with passengers in a meaningful and relaxed way.”
