On February 19th, the final day of the Department of Homeland Security’s R&D Showcase and Technical Workshop held in Washington D.C., Berla was presented with the “Significant Government Impact” Award for Project iVe.
Douglas Maughan, Director of the Department of Homeland Security, Science and Technology Directorate, Cyber Security Division, presented the award to Ben LeMere, CEO of Berla Corporation, and remarked that Project iVe has been instrumental in countless criminal and terrorism investigations over the past 2 years.
Frequently motor vehicles are used in the commission of crimes and may include valuable digital evidence. This evidence can often be instrumental to law enforcement in a criminal investigation, just like a computer or cell phone. Data of interest is normally stored inside a vehicle’s infotainment and telematics system.
Vehicle infotainment and telematics systems store a vast amount of data such as recent destinations, favorite locations, call logs, contact lists, SMS messages, emails, pictures, videos, social media feeds, and the navigation history of everywhere the vehicle has been. Many systems may also record events such as when and where a vehicle lights are turned on, which doors are opened and closed at specific locations, and even where the vehicle is located when Bluetooth devices connect.
In 2013, Berla embarked on a partnership with the DHS Cyber Security Division. This partnership has allowed for the development of a new and innovative digital forensics capability that have been pushed out to federal, state and local law enforcement, as well as, the international community.
Berla Corporation is grateful to be the recipient of such a prestigious award.
